Alumni Achievement Awards

Congratulations to Ronan Daly Jermyn partner Gillian Keating who, along with I WISH cofounders Ruth Buckley and Caroline O’Driscoll, received the UCC Alumni Achievement Award for their inspiring work on the I WISH initiative which is opening doors for young women across Ireland into STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) careers.

Founded in 2014, I Wish is an initiative that combines the very best of industry, academia and the public sector, in order to inspire and encourage young female students to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. The visionary co-founders were motivated by the challenges being faced by multi-national and indigenous businesses in accessing a steady supply of STEM graduates in the Cork region. From the very first I Wish event in 2015, the initiative has grown exponentially. To date, more than 7,000 students have participated in the events in Cork and Dublin, while campus days have expanded the reach of the event further over the past three years.

UCC’s Alumni Achievement Awards programme recognises UCC alumni who have excelled in their life’s work, who have demonstrated leadership in their field and who have been a source of inspiration to students and of pride to the University.  An Alumni Achievement Award is one of the highest honours the University can bestow upon a graduate. To date, UCC has honoured over 75 distinguished alumni with Alumni Achievement Awards.  Nominations are received from all corners of the globe.  This year nominations were received from fellow alumni, from colleagues and from members of faculty and staff.

Gillian Keating is a partner in Ronan Daly Jermyn, where she leads the Corporate Commercial Practice and the Technology and Life Science sector groups. She graduated from UCC with a BA in 1990 and a BCL in 1994 and has over 20 years’ experience advising multi-national and large indigenous companies and regulated entities on all areas of corporate and commercial law. Gillian is a member of the Governing Body of UCC and Fota Wildlife Park and is Chair of the Audit Committee at UCC and is a member of the Audit Committee of Cork City Council. She is also a member of the Advisory Board for the BIS degree at UCC and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at UCC. Gillian is also a Past President of Cork Chamber of Commerce.
