For the first time since 1948, Ireland will be represented in a team event at the Summer Olympic Games as the men's hockey team are set to play in Rio de Janeiro. Ronan Daly Jermyn Solicitor, John Jermyn, who has earned an impressive 158 caps and record 88 goals, has been selected to join the 27-man Irish squad, from which 16 players will be chosen to represent Ireland in Brazil. The team’s bid to win gold starts with a match against India on 6 August.

Richard Martin, managing partner at Ronan Daly Jermyn, said: “We are very proud of John. He has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is and we wish him the best of luck for selection to the Olympic squad traveling to Rio this summer.”

John added “I’m very grateful to Ronan Daly Jermyn for their continued support throughout an extremely intensive build up process.  Playing in the Olympics has been a lifelong ambition which I hope to realise if included in the final squad.”

The men's hockey team have been busy trying to raise funds to complete their build- up programme for their historic involvement in the Rio Games. They recently embarked on a major fundraising drive to plug the €225,000 gap in their budget and have launched a hockey crowdfunding campaign under the banner ‘Obsessed,’ to aid this drive.
