Our team are experienced practitioners in all aspects of litigation and dispute resolution. We have developed a strong reputation in areas such as planning-related disputes and professional negligence claims, handling disputes coming before the Courts at all levels, from the District Court to the Supreme Court.

Ronan Daly Jermyn has particular expertise in cases coming before the fast track Commercial Court and in advising on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) procedures such as arbitration, conciliation and mediation. We act for most of the Irish insurers writing professional negligence business as well as many of those in England and the US. We also boast one of Ireland’s leading Medical Negligence teams, who act for the Clinical Indemnity Scheme, part of the State Claims Agency, which manages claims against state owned hospitals and other state sponsored bodies.

  • Ronan Daly Jermyn has a very strong insurance practice, acting for insurers from all over the world including QBE, RSA, Liberty, UK General, XL, Travelers, AG Dore, Elite, WR Barkley, Hiscox, CNA, Munich RE, Axis and we have been involved in some of the leading professional indemnity cases in Ireland over the past five years.
  • Advised University College Cork on its successful High Court case regarding the disclosure of €100m EIB loan details deal to RTÉ. 
  • Advised RPS Consulting Engineers on its recent successful High Court case challenging the reasons given by Kildare County Council to unsuccessful tenderers. 
  • Successfully defended a High Court injunction in the first High Court decision on seeking an Order prohibiting the publication of an allegedly defamatory statement under the Defamation Act 2009 (Dan Philpott v Irish Examiner).
  • Acted for the Kentech Group, a worldwide  Engineering Group, and its majority shareholders in a Commercial Court winding up petition taking by a minority shareholder pursuant to Section 205 of the Companies Act. We were involved in a landmark  decision before the Commercial Court involving “key words searches”  for the purpose of truncating our client’s discovery obligations.
  • Acted for Landmark Media and the former Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH) Group in the defence of a challenge taken by a creditor in the aftermath of a the first “pre pack receivership” successfully carried out in Ireland. The creditor argued, inter alia that the receivership resulted in an actionable conspiracy. The proceedings were successfully put into a likely permanent stay after we successfully sought security for costs against the Plaintiff.
  • Acted for Reox Holdings Plc in the first successful challenge taken to an upward only rent review obligation. The 2012 decision has since been followed and expanded upon in a number of high profile judgements and has been the subject of substantial academic and press comment.
  • As part of our strong media practice we act for the Landmark Media Group (owners of the Irish Examiner), Wireless Group plc and various media insurers in Ireland.
