Social Impact
At RDJ, we are dedicated to making a meaningful impact in our communities through pro bono work, community outreach and fundraising initiatives.
Our Ongoing Commitments
Volunteering
We are committed to strengthening our communities by dedicating our time and talent to local organisations, charities and businesses.
- Our employees have volunteered:
- at the Capuchin Day Centre for homeless people in Dublin.
- at Down Syndrome Ireland “Field of Dreams” annually, assisting with maintaining their horticultural site in Curraheen, Co. Cork.
- at the Ballymun Community Law Centre as part of their 8-week Law Club programme for Transition Year students.
- at the Crann Centre, a specialist healthcare centre located in Ovens, Co. Cork providing whole-family solutions for children, adults and families living with neuro-physical disabilities.
- with Café Link Galway, a social enterprise in Galway City providing inclusive employment opportunities, catering skills training and day services to people with intellectual disabilities.
- for Dublin County Council’s 'Adopt a Street' program, an initiative to encourage businesses, residents and Dublin City Council to join forces to set a high standard of cleanliness in their local area.
- We joined forces with:
- Irish Trees for their Rewilding Project at Dunsany Estate, where we planted over 300 native Irish trees, helping to restore and protect ancient woodlands.
- Clean Coasts Ballynamona for a beach clean-up in Ardnahinch beach, Shanagarry.
- Clean Coasts Corporate Volunteering Program to organise a coastal clean up on Burrow Beach in Sutton, Dublin.
- Galway County Council to organise a coastal clean up on Salthill beach in Galway.
- A number of our partners sit on Boards for not-for-profit organisations such as Cork University Hospital Charity, Cork Youth Orchestras CLG, Fota Wildlife Park, Mercy University Hospital Foundation, NASC Migrant and Refugee Rights, and South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital.
Events
We host, sponsor and participate in charity events throughout the year to raise money for charities.
- The annual RDJ Santa Cycle in Cork has raised over €250,000 for registered charities that include Pieta House, Cappagh Kids, Straight Ahead, Marymount University Hospice and Hospital and Cork Arc House.
- RDJ’s running team have participated in running events, including the '10-For-10' Cork City Marathon Challenge, with The Sanctuary Runners. The Sanctuary Runners is a sport initiative which uses running to bring together asylum seekers, refugees and those in wider Irish society. With over 10,000 runners in 35 groups across Ireland, their model allows communities to get to know each other, fosters community integration and improves physical and mental health. We also participate every year in the Calcutta Run in Cork, Dublin and Galway (with funds raised going to the Peter McVerry Trust and The Hope Foundation).
- Members of our team also participated in fundraising events for charities including Pieta House, Cork Simon Community, Belong To Youth Services, HopeSpace and the Jack and Jill Foundation.
Pro Bono
RDJ is a part of ‘Pro Bono Pledge Ireland’, the first collaborative effort in Ireland to articulate the shared professional responsibility of lawyers to promote access to justice and provide pro bono legal assistance to those in need. The Pledge is coordinated by PILA (the Public Law Alliance, a project of FLAC - Free Legal Advice Centres) and supported by the Bar of Ireland, The Law Society of Ireland, and the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association.
