Ronan Daly Jermyn provides specialist advice on a variety of IP legal issues.  Our lawyers also have substantial experience of assisting clients in the acquisition and effective exploitation of intellectual property through licensing, franchising, transfer and other arrangements.

The firm counts amongst its clients in this area several major multi-nationals and indigenous Irish businesses. We also specialise in acting for growing technology and other businesses and we assist them in negotiating and concluding funding arrangements as well as advising on IP matters.

We have significant expertise in the area of technology transfer and collaborative research arrangements between universities and the private sector.  For many years we have advised three of Ireland’s leading universities (University College Cork, National University of Ireland Galway and University of Limerick) on IP matters.

On the contentious IP side, our commercial litigation team has been involved in IP disputes at all levels.

  • Acted for Neurent Medical, a company which is developing a minimally invasive treatment for Rhinitis, in relation to the drafting, negotiation and entry into of an IP licence agreement with NUI Galway.
  • Acted for Galway Cultural Development & Activity Company Limited by Guarantee (trading as Galway 2020) in relation to the licensing of IP and IP ownership rights.
  • Acting for the University of Limerick in relation to the establishment of a number of collaborative research centres including, the Enterprise Ireland-funded technology centre DPTC (the Dairy Processing Technology Centre) and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre, and the Science Foundation Ireland-funded Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical centre.
  • Advising the University of Limerick on the legal arrangements underpinning the establishment at UL of the Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre, a research collaboration programme between Irish universities and leading pharmaceutical companies.
  • Acting for the Tyndall National Institute in relation to this establishment of the Enterprise Ireland-funded competence centre: IERC (the International Energy Research Centre) and related legal issues.
  • Advising third level institutions and companies in connection with a variety of bilateral collaborative research arrangements and innovation partnerships.
  • Advising Munster Rugby on trade mark, branding and IP infringement issues.
